The monsoons are here, which means it's time to explore the rich biodiverse backyard of Bangalore where there are mountains to scale, forests to explore, and adventure to seek. This monsoon season we are rounding up some of our favourite locations that include everything from stunning waterfalls to picturesque peaks that you can visit from Bangalore. In no particular order, here are some of the best places to visit during monsoon from Bangalore. 

Jog Falls

Arguably Karnataka's best waterfalls, Jog Falls is a place you need to visit near Bangalore during the monsoons. During peak monsoon, you will see the four falls that make Jog Falls gushing down in all its glory. There's mist all around, verdant hues all over, the monsoon breeze and if you are lucky, the monsoon showers. Oh and once the sun is out, there's a chance to catch a rainbow or the elusive double rainbow. It's like you're at Niagara Falls, but maybe only better.

Kodagu (Coorg)

Kodagu or as it was formerly known as Coorg is one of the two go-to hill stations near Bangalore. Monsoon here is magical, and there's plenty to do as well. From exploring coffee plantations to national parks, you can make a weekend getaway plan and enjoy the best that this quaint place has to offer. Kurinjal Peak

If you are a fan of monsoon treks, boy, have we got one of the best spots for you to trek — Kurinjal Peak inside the lush, verdant Kudremukh National Park. The easy-to-moderate trek will have you scaling the unspoiled forests of the Western Ghats and on your way up, you will pass through plenty of waterfalls, and scenic views that are straight out of a postcard. The trek becomes extremely adventurous and beautiful during the light showers.

Agumbe

Touted as ‘Cherrapunji of South India', Agumbe is a haven during monsoons. If you are looking for trekking trails, there are plenty here — Barkana Falls trail, Koodlu Theertha Falls trail, and the hugely popular Narasimha Parvatha trek. River rafting is also widely popular here, especially on River Sitanadi. Rafting is quite adventurous and not hard but it will give you just the thrill you need.

Skandagiri

If you don't have a lot of time to spend but still want to do a quick one-day getaway, then Skandagiri is the place to be! Skandagiri is located in the Chikkaballapur district and hill fort is a good spot to do a trek. There are ruins of an old 18th-century fort and during the monsoon, the trail is a lot more fun to scale without the sun beating down on you. Go for the morning trek so you can catch the sunrise.

Time: Around 2 hours  

Chikkamagaluru (Chikkamagalur)

Plenty of waterfalls, coffee plantations, trekking trails, adventure caves, and magic — that's Chikkamagaluru (or Chikkamagalur) for you. A road trip here is scenic and there's a lot to do here as well. Hebbe Falls is one of the most popular waterfalls in the region and during the monsoon, the falls are at their fullest and the water gushes down below from a height of 500 feet. If you are looking for something adventurous, then trekking up Z Point is one of the activities. It's one of the highest peaks. Plus, Baba Budangiri is in the region as well.

Dandeli

Dandeli is adventure pro max and during the monsoons, everything comes alive. River rafting in River Kali is the best thing you can do here if you want an adrenaline rush. Or you could slow it down with kayaking on the same river. There are a lot of jungles to explore through mountain biking so be sure to check that out and nothing like getting some mud right? For trekking trails, you can do the Kavata Caves trail or the Kulgi-Nagzari Valley and Potoli-Shiroli treks.
