We have enjoyed our lunches to dinner dates at Roxie, and when we heard that Roxie is bringing a friend along in Whitefield, we were curious. If Roxie was touted to be India’s first and largest crafthouse, what would this Whitefield outpost be all about? Turns out, Roxie & Barry is touted to be India’s first Indo-Italian crafthouse.

The Space

Roxie & Barry is maximalist when it comes to its decor. Right at the entrance is a bar that features a mosaic installation depicting floral blooms, and you will feel like you’ve stepped into an Italian mansion, but walk past that, and suddenly the beige accents change into a tropical cave-like situation, complete with a massive waterfall on one side. Greenery surrounds the space, and on weekends, you’ll find the spot gets pretty crowded with people taking pictures and shooting their Reels. Upstairs, there are two bars, with Barry’s Paradise being the one that overlooks the waterfall. Al fresco seating and this semi-open space make it ideal when the Bangalore weather is at its finest.

The Tipple & Nosh

Roxie & Barry’s menu, inspired by the two Italian coasts — the Amalfi Coast and Apulia (Puglia) — so you’ll see that along with Italian classics, there’s also the Indian menu, which probably explains the Indo-Italian tag. On preview night, restaurateur Pravesh Pandey, who’s behind the brand, walked us through the menu on how it’s made for those indulgent nights but also for those times when you are coming with a large group who needs a little bit of everything.

We started with a Herb Tomato, Burrata & Truffle Pesto Oil salad that is both light and refreshing. This was followed by the Salmon Ceviche, which gets a beet & citrus dressing that gives that sharp, bright flavours. Between our meals, rounds of cocktails from Barry’s Paradise were served, which included Barry’s Signature Picante, Scarlet Whisper, Beni Hana, and Summer in Sicilia. While we were sober for the night, others at the table raved about the Sweet Amalie, Summer in Sicilia, and Beni Hana, so much so that there were repeats at the table.

While people were enjoying the drinks, we dug into the Lobster Dumpling and a rather interesting Tandoori Salmon. The salmon is a take on the Apulian dish with an Indian touch and served with a side of Millet Khichdi. Speaking of khichdi, a Mushroom Ghee Roast and Barley Pongal were also getting a lot of chatter around, but we didn’t try them, though, due to our allergies. A lot of other dishes were served and we were in a bit of food coma until the Confit Duck Leg arrived. Probably our best pick for the night.

We skipped desserts, but Pravesh asked us to come back for the Caramelised Brioche Toast with Creme Fraiche, and some of the other pasta.

Final Thoughts

If you are on that side of town, Roxie & Barry makes for a great weeknight dinner space or an early weekend lunch before the crowd comes in. You’ll come for the space, stay for the food, and the vibes.
