Indiranagar's sudden affinity towards food that's closer to home is a win for many of us who love our global food but some days just want to have a dosa and strong filter coffee and go back to bed. Enter The Filter Coffee on Indiranagar's 80 Feet Road, the brand's second outlet in the city after the OG at Kalyan Nagar. While we only had dosa once at the Kalyan Nagar outlet, we've been pretty much close to being frequent visitors at the Indiranagar outlet for their dosas and meals. But first, we must talk about the dosa bar. Essentially, the restaurant has an open kitchen style and there's a bar seating where you can get high on the sambhar. Oh, and this is proper Tamil Nadu-style sambhar, so enter thicker, spicier sambhar (a respite for this writer who's not the biggest fan of the sweet sambhar that's typical of Karnataka).
Our go-to order is the podi dosa and paper roast dosa at any given meal. But we did try the banana leaf meal on Sunday afternoon and lord, what a proper meal that was. You get a typical South Indian meal consisting of rice, rotis/pooris, and an assortment of curries, including many Tamil-influenced dishes such as kozhambu, dal, and lentil-based poriyal.
The Tamil influences come from the fact that the owners have worked with family recipes of the state to create a menu that just hits the spot. Oh, and definitely wash down all that good food with a round or two of frothy filter coffee.
