One half of the ‘twin cities’ Kalyan and Dombivli, the latter is definitely what we’d call a little ‘slept on’. Dombivli is one of the oldest localities of Greater Mumbai, but it’s pretty much ignored even when people talk about distant suburbs.
According to historical records, King Harpal Dev, who ruled the region around AD 1000, referenced Dombivli in court texts. Stone inscriptions have been found in the area that date back to 1396, proving that it’s got its own rich history.
Today, Dombivli is vibrant, busy and densely populated—and with good reason! You’ve got endless shopping, killer food and a sunset or two to soak in!
How To Reach: Depends on where you start! Dombivli is on the Central Railway line, so if you’re coming from Western or Harbour Line areas, you can switch trains at Dadar or Kurla, respectively.
Alternatively, you could also opt to take the Versova-Ghatkopar metro, and get a train from Ghatkopar Station.
Want to drive there? Take the Eastern Freeway, or the Eastern Express Highway, after which you gotta take the Kalyan-Shilphata road.
