As someone who has been going to Prithvi Cafe{ for as long as I can remember because staying in the same area that's just a 10-minute rickshaw ride away from the cafe made it my go-to place. But that's not why I like this cafe, my affection is for the literary affiliation that it has. The bookshop is like no ordinary bookshop in the city and holds books from the likes of Manto, Chugtai, and Premchand among others.
The theatre is right next to the cafe and it comes alive every night when a play is being held. Watching industry stalwarts like Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak perform is a once in a lifetime experience. You can keep a tab on when they are performing and book tickets well in advance as most shows are house full within days of opening. Make sure you arrive well in advance, eat the delicious food at the cafe, sip on some sulaimani chai, and get in the queue before everyone else to get the best seats. And surrender - to the characters, the actors, the environment, and everything else.
