The Science Centre and the Convention Centre are the two buildings that make up Science City Kolkata, which is spread across 50 acres. Paul Jozef Crutzen founded the Convention Centre on December 21, 1996, alongside Mr. Jyoti Basu, the West Bengal chief minister at the time.
The centre features a part devoted to the amazing aquatic world, home to tanks containing some of the rarest fish and other marine creatures. Since its debut, Science City has had a total of around 29.90 million visits from both domestic and foreign travellers. In 2022, Science City has had over 3.3 crore visitors since the last 25 years.
Explore some very interesting science subjects! The Freshwater Aquarium is the first stop; here, aspiring marine scientists can nerd out over various fish species and their behaviours. Next is Power of Ten, a surreal trip that zooms in and out of the cosmos, covering everything from the smallest particles to the grandeur of galaxies. Not to mention Illusions, in which the science of visual perception is unveiled along with how motion and placement may completely deceive our brains.
Oh, and you can geek out watching these little insects flutter from flower to flower in the Live Butterfly zone, which is a vast botanical paradise. In essence, it's like being in a nature documentary!
The complex is organised into five thematic areas:
Dynamotion Hall: This interactive display offers fascinating ways to learn about the laws of physical science.
Space Odyssey: It is an immersive excursions into space with a Space Theatre, 3D Theatre, Mirror Magic, and Time Machine.
Nautical Centre: Interactive exhibitions and ship models highlight nautical history and technology.
Earth Exploration Hall: A two-story, hemispherical structure that educates guests about the environment of Earth, both above and below the surface.
Science Park: Amidst the lush greenery, it provides an outdoor educational experience with scientific displays.
