What Is It?

Hosted by The Inheritage Project – an initiative that employs various mediums to celebrate the diverse art and heritage of the Mumbai city – Walking With Words is an event where you will unearth hidden stories of the city – from being a fortified colonised island to being the commercial capital of India; the stories of Mumbai.

Who Is It For?

This walk is especially curated for the curious, and for those who take keen interest in history and culture. If listening to erstwhile stories of conquests and overthrowing of power to industrialisation and settlements don’t bore you, then this one’s for you.

Why Should I Go

You should go to understand the elements that played a critical role in shaping the then Bombay to the now Mumbai. This walk will go through the Fort area where every street and bylane has a story it tells. From being a struggling fortified trading hub for the East India Co. to becoming that one city that the whole of India looks up to for livelihood, the challenges, the opportunities and everything that lies within the Maximum City will be figured while on this walk. And how? Through the words of diarists, poets, and novelists who’ve experienced the city over years and have something to say in their own voice, through the texts written by Rudyard Kipling, and Salman Rushdie about the city. Walk with Alisha Sadikot to know, understand and dive deep into the rich heritage that Mumbai offers.

So, We’re Saying…

Spare sometime this Sunday and head out to explore Mumbai’s history through the words of those who have a knack for analysing and bringing to life the tales from the bygone era.
