Stay In a Tree-Hut, Try Your Hand At Organic Farming Or Simply Relax At This Boutique Farm-Stay

What Is It?

Amrute’s Nisarga Sahavas is a boutique farm-stay, which practices responsible agro-tourism. A quiet retreat, located far away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this eco-friendly getaway is exactly the place you should visit to get some proper rest and relaxation.

How Do I Get There?

Situated in the Dapoli district of the Konkan coastal region, Nisarga Sahavas is around 200 – 250km away from Pune; about a 5.5 – 6hr drive {depending on which route you take}. There are detailed directions here on how to get there by car from Pune, and the site is also geo-tagged on Google Maps.

What Did I Like?

Run by the Amrute family, this farm-stay is exactly that: a stay on a farm. Accommodation here is simple but comfortable: rustic-style, but with modern amenities. We were swooning over their “bird’s nest” style tree huts, which are private, romantic, and just perfect for a couple’s getaway; their log house, bamboo house, and Warli huts are ideal for groups, and families with kids. Nisarga Sahavas serves authentic Maharashtrian food, and we’ve heard rave reviews about it {especially their modaks}. Meals like breakfast and dinner are served buffet-style and are included in the room cost, along with evening tea. Lunch and special dishes like gavathi chicken, fish fry, lobster, etc. can be arranged at extra cost.

Anything Else?

The highlight here is the Amrute’s organic farm – which you can enjoy a guided tour of, and their nursery – where you can also buy some of their plants. You’ll find fruit-bearing trees, flowering plants, herbs, spices, and varieties of medicinal, ornamental, aromatic, and edible plants. They also have a processing unit {in collaboration with the nearby village}, which produces syrups, pickles, chitneys, papads, etc. from agricultural crops. Leave your phone behind and set out on a guided nature walk, go bird-watching {peacocks and hornbills have been known to frequent the grounds}, sign up for a cooking or farming demo, kitchen gardening workshop, or play with some of the farm pets! Other activities include a village tour, bicycling, archery, and rifle-shooting. If you prefer to explore on your own, there are several beaches and points of interest within driving distance from the farm-stay.
