Learn To Publish Non-fiction Book With HarperCollins

What's Happening?

We’re approaching the halfway mark on our fun collaborative workshops with HarperCollins! While the first two workshops covered the minute details with respect to writing and publishing a novel and your own poetry book respectively, the third one’s a biggie, too! Writing a non-fiction book and publishing it involve myriad steps and this workshop is all about showing you how it’s done, step by step.

For all the aspiring non-fiction writers, this workshop is just what you need – information about what elements are required to write a nonfiction book? How to find a publisher without an agent (how to pitch your book, where to contact publishers, what background helps you get noticed by publishers the most?) How does trade publishing process function and why is it different from self-publishing and academic publishing? The questions are one too many and you will get your answers here.

The predominant question for every non-fiction writer is: ‘Is your idea worth publishing?’ This makes it imperative for writers to know how to think of timely and important ideas and pitch them appropriately to publishers. There will be a list of ‘do’s and don’ts’ for every emerging author. It will also cover how to refine a proposal and develop a non-fiction book idea, if an agent is needed or one can directly reach out to the publishers, even the basic difference between a publishing house and publishing services!

To guide us through it all, we have Ananya Borgohain, who is a non-fiction commissioning editor at HarperCollins India. She is a former journalist and has an MPhil in literature. We also have Tara Kaushal, who is a writer and a media consultant. She was recognised for her incisive journalism and social commentary and was awarded the Laadli Media Award for gender-sensitive writing in 2013-14. And we’re eagerly awaiting her forthcoming book, Why Men Rape: An Indian Undercover Investigation releasing on 22nd June, 2020.

Phew! That’s a lot to cover in one session. So, join us on June 19 via Zoom at 6 PM. Make sure to keep your questions ready for our Q&A round too.
