Music, Art & Films: A New House Concert Series From Delhi Has Launched In Mumbai
Shortcut
From One Living Room To Another
House Concert started off in Delhi almost two years back. In Delhi they have organised 29 sessions so far which they organise at least twice a month. Manu Mathew, one of the co-founders of House Concert, tells us they started it off in a basement in Gurgaon.
After the success of the series in Delhi, they launched it in Mumbai in April this year, and so far have organised two series. The idea behind House Concert was to fill the lack of spaces for artists to come and perform original music. Manu reiterates this, and says, “it was to create a space so the artists are the centre of the evening, and everything flows around them”.
Though we have talked about other similar communities that organise living rooms concerts and house parties, House Concert Mumbai breaks away from the conventional music gigs. They aim to give a platform to other art forms as well, like film screenings, theatre, poetry, dance and more.
What We Love
House Concert Mumbai is headed by Shaik Afsha, the city leader, and is supported by volunteers and members. They will be organising these series in living rooms of volunteer hosts, and will aim to bring as much diversity in artists as possible.
It’s a BYOB scene {depending on the venue and the host} and the guests can pay what they like at the concert itself {it all goes in organising these concerts in future}. If you’d like to get involved, you can sign up to host, or volunteer with them and help them out in organising these.
The location will not be revealed until you sign up. RSVP quickly, and reserve a spot. It’s purely first come basis, as they generally aim to host at least 30-40 people depending on their venue.
So, We're Saying...
Mumbai’s cultural space gets another community supporting the art. It’s a great way to meet new people and listen to the local talent in a sit-down intimate surrounding.
