Read A Book & Order Something Off The Menu At This New Cafe In Sopan Baug

Shortcut

Just off BT Kawade Road, nestled in the hamlet of Sopan Baug, is Cafe Sinful Soulful. Barely 6 months old, this quiet cafe is the only one in the immediate neighbourhood, serving up delicious comfort food in a cosy, casual setting.

Tell Me More

Run by home chef Shweta Chiang, and her husband, Quaiteng – the menu is diverse, reflecting a little bit of their heritage {Shweta is Punjabi, and Quiateng is Chinese – the 4th generation of a family settled in India}. Shweta is a baker at heart, having honed her skills for the past 12 years. Starting their own eatery was supposed to be a retirement plan, that snowballed quickly into the Cafe – which they launched on April 29th, 2017. The bungalow they occupy is Sopan Baug’s commercial plot, which used to be the local grocery store circa 15 years ago. They’ve done the space up beautifully, with twinkly lights, colourful bunting – and even a space for kids to play. Comfort is key – and their patio features several bean-bag armchairs that just beg to be sunk into. Seating is spaced out, because they want to maintain an air of intimacy – where people can come to enjoy a meal together, without being compelled to listen to a conversation happening at the next table. The plan is, to provide food for everyone – whether you’re in a group or dining solo, a vegan or a hard-core meat eater. Pick from a variety of loaded ‘sinful fries’, salads, ‘wow-gers’ {aka burgers}, grilled sandwiches, hot and cold beverages, meals for one, and desserts; there’s a dish to satisfy every craving! For those with dietary restrictions – worry not, there are also gluten-free and dairy-free options available for most of the recipes, and Shweta is happy to accommodate your food requirements. You can even order items that are off the menu – provided you call ahead and check.

Anything Else?

There’s a book corner inside the cafe, where you can pick up a book and have a read while eating. There’s no WiFi on purpose – because the point is to have a conversation, not be glued to your phone. There will be a new menu out by Diwali, featuring 160+ items to fill your belly. You can also pick up jams by Tasha & Girl, and organic tea by Tea Lab.

So, We're Saying...

We love that it’s mostly outdoors {don’t worry, it’s covered during the monsoon}, with the vibe of hanging out at a family friend’s house, or in someone’s living room. Don’t miss out on their Sinful Hot Chocolate {INR 150}, dairy-free Thai Cold Coffee {INR 150}, grilled cheese thecha sandwich {INR 250} and the bigger-than-your-face WTF Wow-ger {INR 400}.

#LBBTip

They will be celebrating Chinese New Year {which is in February 2018} with an authentic Chinese breakfast menu, so mark your calendars and come on by!
