What Makes It Awesome

We love our East Asian food and when we heard about Eight opening at Phoenix Mall Of Asia, the first thing we did was look up the menu. Cheung fun, sushi, and dim sum form the staple here is what we gathered. Cue to our preview night, we realised we hadn't fully gone through the menu the first time around. So we asked the team to send out whatever they thought we should try while we studied the menu like we were preparing for a pop quiz. In between all the studying, we couldn't help but notice how even though we were at a mall, we were in a space that didn't feel like it's inside a mall. Luxe elements ensure the space looks chic but with Asian elements carefully thrown in. There are multiple sections for you to be seated at with the patio seating at the back looking just perfect.

We were told that a salad, ceviche and some sushi were on the way when our drinks were brought to the table. A Hokkaido Martini for the gin-lover and Asian Barbie for the teetotaler. The martini had a mix of gin and umeshu plum sake for a delightful pick-me-up effect which was well-received especially given that we were coming after a long day at work. The Barbie hit the spot because we are a strawberry baby!

The Hong Kong Crispy Duck Salad, Blackfin Tuna Roll Uramaki, and Young Coconut Peruvian Ceviche promptly arrived at our table. The salad was a hit cause we do love our plum sauce. We're told the duck's been braised for 24 hours and we could tell. The duck salad probably would have been the highlight if we hadn't tried the ceviche. Coconut flesh resting on a bed of velvety corn sauce—flavours that we haven't tried in recent times and we were impressed. We probably would have gone another round if it weren't for the uramaki that was staring at us. We were also served Chicken Puff and Edamame & Truffle Dimsums, with the flaky puffs being our pick—sweet and salty with a hint of curry.

By this time, we were nearly full and luckily the staff brought us our mains—Blue Pea Jasmine Rice with Red Snapper Thai Chilli Basil. The curry worked with the rice and is definitely something we'd order for the table again when we come in a larger group.

We skipped dessert but we are coming back for the Miso Black Cod (very Nobu feels), Cantonese Wok Tossed Pork Belly, and the drinks Thai Boxer and Tokyo Drift.
