Dawat-e-Dastarkhwan | Season 3 | Ramzan in old Delhi Date: 10th June 2018 Meeting Point: Jama Masjid Metro Station, Gate Number 1 Time : 8:30 pm - 10:00 pm Shahjahanabad, The heritage city and the hub for all the foodies, wholeheartedly welcomes you for a food for thought. Food is an ingredient that has always been binding people together. With this pdwkb brings to you "DAWAT-E-DASTARKHWAN" We are here to rejuvenate your taste buds with the gastronomic appetite of old Delhi. The riwayti dastarkhwans of Puraani Dilli embody Dilli's spirit of mehmaan nawazi. It's not the just food which is served, but the love of the mezbaan, too. Visiting purani Dilli during the month of Ramzan will surely mesmerise you with its charm as it enhances the beauty of those bazaars. Although, Purani Dilli is always decked up like a Doll, on festivals and occasions like Eid and Ramzaan it is adored like a bride. There are hundreds of hotels and restaurants offering mouth-watering food in and around Delhi but all of them have western & modern style ambience. We have forgotten our old legacy of sitting on the floor and having food on lavish dastarkhwan in a mansion. Let’s introduce you to our age-old tehzeeb with our ‘Dawat-e-Dastarkhwan’. Menu - Starter - Chicken Barra Chicken Chatpata Main Course - Nahari ( Mutton ) - Slow-cooked meat mainly shank meat of mutton along with bone marrow Haleem - A stew popular in the Indian subcontinent. Haleem is made of wheat, barley, porridge, minced meat, lentils and spices, sometimes rice is also used. This dish is slow cooked for seven to eight hours, which results in a paste-like consistency, blending the flavours of spices, meat, barley and wheat) Biryani ( Mutton ) - Made from parboiled rice & meat, which is then assembled with the other ingredients, sealed and put on "dum" (put on a very low heat, so that all the flavours inside the pot amalgamate well) for at least 45 minutes. Desserts - Mutanjan ( a traditional dish ) - Mutanjan is a heaven for foodies with a sweet tooth of traditional sweet dishes. Mutanjan was a favourite dish of Emperor Shahjahan and the dish was often prepared for his royal banquet, back in Mughal era. It's prepared with boiled rice and adding them with milk, sugar and vibrant food colours which are a representation of festivity and joy. The rice is then further flavoured with dry fruits like almonds, walnuts, pistachios, cashews, chicken and raisins. Drinks - Rooh Afza - It is a cool blend of herbal ingredients. A refreshing concoction, RoohAfza is a thirst quencher and a great additive for mocktails and desserts. Besides cooling, it is also nutritional and maintains as well as adjusts the body’s water level.
