From Qawwalis To Poetry, This Day-Long Festival Celebrates All Things Urdu

Afreen Afreen, India Habitat Centre

What's Happening

Hindustani Awaz is an organisation that was started with the agenda to bring focus back to the forgotten languages that were commonly spoken in Northern, pre-partition India, and they organise an annual festival called 'Afreen' to celebrate those languages. The festival features mushairas, poetry, qawwali, plays, and music, in languages such as Urdu, Braj Bhasha, and even some Punjabi.

Urdu language enthusiasts will particularly enjoy this event, as it sheds light on the various themes that the poets and authors explored, from love and loss, to protest and dissent, in the form of nazm, sher, and more.

The event will feature both renditions of classics and original work. Dhruv Sangari of Coke Studio fame will also be performing a sufi rendition of the works of Khusro and Bulleh Shah. Sounds like something you wouldn't wanna miss!

How's The Venue

The event will be taking place at the Amphitheater in IHC.
