Delhi Art Slam is a community of artists who organise pop-ups in cafes where artworks of underground and amateur artists are showcased. These pop-ups are held in public spaces with the intention of making art accessible to everyone. One’s happening this month too!

Art For Art's Sake

Started in Jan last year by five artists (all from different fields) – Isha, Dhruv, Ali, Kashika and Parth, Delhi Art Slam is a makeshift museum of sorts for all art enthusiasts in the city. This community wants to localise art galleries, which is why, they came up with the idea of displaying art at public spaces like cafes.

Here’s how this works: The folks at Delhi Art Slam open registrations for a slam (roughly happens once in two months) on their Facebook page. Interested artists can upload a copy of their original works (like photographs, a photo of their installation, their graphics, watercolour paintings and pretty much any kind of art) and fill in all their details on a google form like this one. Then, the Art Slam team shortlists approximately 20 – 30 artists (depending on their venue size) whose works will be displayed at a cafe.

They’re hosting their latest Art Slam on June 30 at Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters in Saidulajab. The setting’s relaxed, there’ll be lots of interesting artworks to marvel at and really, anyone can view and even buy the works displayed. Isn’t this just a great way to enjoy art?

So, We're Saying..

Art is out there, not just in well-lit, clinical-looking museums. More people need to experience its power which is exactly what the folks at Delhi Art Slam are working towards. If you’ve always been fascinated by paintings but also intimidated by galleries, the Delhi Art Slam is for you. Be sure to drop by for the slam on the 30th.

In case you want to showcase your work, submit your entries and register here. Last date to register is June 25. For more info, check out their Facebook page here.
