Fueling almost all of South India and soon charging its way to the rest of the subcontinent, Filter Kaapi or Filter Coffee is that strong, comforting companion or partner you didn't know you needed to be looking for. But best believe us that once you find a perfectly pulled cup of frothy goodness, there's no turning back! Before that here's some general knowledge - what makes good quality filter coffee is actual coffee and none of that instant stuff. A coarser grind of Arabica and Robusta beans slow roasted to a medium (to dark) and mixed with the right amount of chicory (signature addition to most filter coffees, adds a savoury, bitter depth) is believed to yield the perfect, deep and rich flavoured cup. Similarly, brewing filter coffee the right way is important too. Make sure to use a 4-part South Indian filter and let the coffee brew low and slow.

That said, finding the cup of filter coffee best suited to your tastebuds is a journey of hits and misses. To help you make this critical, life impacting decision (it is going to be the first thing you taste everyday, after all) is our list of filter coffees from some of the best Indian Coffee Brands available on LBB and off. Bookmark this list and share it with that friend who's already a filter coffee lover so they get to explore and try more and if you know someone who hasn't tasted the wonders of this coffee, definitely get them to!

Bru Green Label Filter Coffee

BRU Green Label Filter Coffee

We've grown up drinking Bru Filter Coffee from our grandma's kitchens (at least this writer has and the brand is going strong since 1929), so this pick reminds us of home! Best described as comfort in a cup, Bru's "green label" filter coffee boasts a rich, all-coffee flavour despite being a traditional 53% coffee and 47% chicory blend. Interestingly enough and although this a lightly roasted coffee, what we've seen our grandma do too, is brew a second decoction from the same batch of coffee and believe us, it tasted and smelled just as rich and aromatic. This filter coffee comes in nitro flush packaging to help retain freshness for longer periods of time.
