7 Sunscreens That Won’t Leave A White Cast

We've all established that sunscreens are an essential part of our skincare routines and cannot be skipped at any cost. Winter especially feels like a time when you don’t need SPF, since the sun is barely there. But, we're all guilty of lazying in the winter sun for hours on weekends. And we feel one should relax in the sun stress-free by protecting themselves from the sun's harmful rays.

Finding one with optimum protection that doesn't dry you out is key. For Indian weather, it's considered good to have an SPF of at least 30, a minimum PA+++ coverage (protection against UVA rays) and ideally be broad spectrum (protecting against UVA and UVB rays). It sounds complicated and a LOT to remember, so here are a few of our favourite picks for the season.

Biore UV Watery Essence Sunscreen

You know how moisturising this sunscreen will be just by reading its name. It's got all the qualities of a good sunscreen — SPF 50, PA++++ coverage, no white cast and on top of it all has passed a confirmed 80-minute water resistance test, which makes it super water-proof. It's also non-comedogenic, so it won’t clog your pores.

User Reviews: Amirtha Siva says, "doesn't leave a white cast at all, blends in effortlessly and still protects your skin. Doesn't feel greasy or too drying too. Since its gel it gets absorbed very fast."

Innisfree is one of the first brands I tried when it comes to skincare, and it still remains my go-to brand. This one's got SPF 50 with PA++++ coverage and eight types of hyaluronic acids (I didn’t even know these many existed!), so it's literally the best for winter. The texture is lightweight and doesn’t leave a white cast, which is always appreciated.

User Review: Cale says, "This is a perfect transparent sunscreen for all of you who hate the white cast. However, I am a bit disappointed with the quantity. It's quite a slender tube."

A product we keep coming back to, it's just that good. And if you're in doubt, then pick this bottle you can’t go wrong. The only thing is that it's not very moisturising, but that's okay because by default you should be using a moisturiser beforehand. It's PA+++, SPF 50 and also broad spectrum, which means it'll be saving you from UVA rays (protects from ageing) as well as UVB rays (protects from burning).

User Review: Manisha Dey says, "I'm using this product for 3-4 years. The benefits were so good. I just love this product."

I’m positive that La Shield became so popular after dermatologists started recommending it (mine did too). It's a broad-spectrum SPF 40 sunscreen with PA+++ coverage. It leaves you with a matte finish but still feels hydrating.

User Review: Deepika M says, "My dermatologist prescribed this, and I have now finished two tubes. This sunscreen doesn’t leave any white cast. It has a matte texture and finish and gets absorbed quickly. Lightweight and good for oily/combination skin."

This one's an underrated product. It retails only for 400 bucks and packs a punch — SPF 50, PA++++ coverage, broad spectrum. I personally know two people using this and liking the results so far. It claims to be non-irritant and non-comedogenic, which I hold true considering that none of my friends have broken out. It's also free from sulphates, parabens, silicones and fragrance — always a good thing.

User Review: Varnika Gupta says, "I really love this sunscreen. It's super absorbent, no white cast, easy to blend, moisturing. I've purchased it for the fifth time. I have oily skin, and it doesn't make my skin look too shiny or oily or even greasy. A little product goes a long way"

Dr. Sheth's products are formulated especially for Indian skin and I've personally tried some of their products that really worked. This sunscreen is SPF 50, PA+++ protection and while it doesn’t say on the packaging that it's broad spectrum, it does mention that it'll protect you from both, UVA and UVB rays. The best part is that apart from the usual work, it also has some superb ingredients like vitamin C, ceramides and hyaluronic acid, helping with pigmentation, repairing the skin barrier and also keeping it moisturised. Oh and, it doesn’t leave a white cast!

User Review: Ankita Sharma says, "My second purchase and I love it. I have oily skin, and after applying it blends well and dosen't feel heavy. It has a dewy finish."

If you have sensitive skin, then you must buy this water-based sunscreen. It gives intense hydration, thanks to hyaluronic acid. It can also be applied to wet skin, which isn't true for most sunscreens as it affects their sun protection ability. While it is expensive, it doesn’t disappoint, and a little goes a long way so, it'll last you a long time. The texture is literally just like water, so it gets absorbed quickly and leaves no white cast.

User Review: Pooja Hari says, "Amazing product, no white cast and gets absorbed quickly. I purchased it after I found a review on this by a dermatologist. It truly meets expectations"
