If you are looking to explore Delhi, then why not start off with the Delhi Zoo? Situated near the Old Fort, it's the best place to visit if you wish to relive your childhood memories.
The Delhi Zoo was inaugurated on 1st November 1959 and in the year 1982, it was given the status of the National Zoological Park. From different kinds of birds, animals, and even plants, you'll find everything in abundance here. Let us tell you that it's a 176-acre zoo so, you at least need four-five hours to roam around. If you are someone who can't walk around too much then, there are battery-operated golf carts too to drive you around.
Some of the animals that you'll spot in the National Zoological Park in New Delhi are leopards, giraffes, elephants, rhinoceros, Gir lion, chimpanzees, hyenas, hippopotamus, wild buffaloes, zebras, and deers. The zoo even has a reptile house where you'll find crocodiles, Indian cobra, Indian star tortoise, Indian sand boa and species of bird such as Emu, sarus crane, grey hornbill, and barn owl.
Do make a note that if you are planning to shoot videos, the charges for still camera are nil but, for a documentary INR 2,000, and for a feature film, INR 50,000.
Timings: Summer (1April - 15 October)- 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM and winter (16 October - 31 March)- 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Time Required To Explore: Approximately three hours but it obviously depends on how much you want to cover.
How To Reach: If you are wondering how to reach, Pragati Maidan metro station is the nearest and you can perhaps, find an auto or a cab to drop you to the zoo.
