Long weekend coming up? Make a splash at the famous Balamuri and Edmuri Falls which is about 138 kilometers from Bangalore with the squad. Make it a long-drive along the Bangalore-Mysore Highway and reach Balmuri and Edmuri falls. The waterfalls are about 16.5 kilometers away from Mysore. Coracle rides and chomping on fried fish can also be part of the itinerary.
A common sight in Sandalwood movies, Balmuri Falls is the more popular of the two. The small fall that drops six feet is not natural as it's formed by a check dam that’s built on the River Cauvery. Ensconced in greenery, you can enjoy a dip in the waters at Balmuri. Although it is safe, it’s best not to venture deep into the waters and keep away entirely if the dam’s gates have been opened. The best time to visit is from March to August and one can visit from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. During summer, they also have fun boat rides open for the public.
Edmuri lies about a kilometer away from Balmuri. While lesser-known, it offers a similarly scenic setting. Plus, it is a lot less crowded than Balmuri so if you’d like some peace and quiet, we recommend you head here. During the monsoons, when the water levels are higher, you can enjoy coracle rides. Near Balmuri, there are plenty of makeshift stalls that fry up fresh catch from the waters. But if you want to spend an entire day exploring, consider heading out to the other attractions in the vicinity. The historical and ruined town of Srirangapatna is one option. You can also check out Brindavan Gardens, Daria Daulat Bagh and Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary.
