THEY MAKE YOU WANT TO GET ‘EM FEET OFF THE COUCH
Somewhere, in the middle of those unkept new year resolutions, innumerable promises of the “last” cheat meal, a million snoozed alarms to hit the gym - we’ve all struggled.
If you’re someone with the tiniest thought of shaping your life into something more meaningful, well congratulations, you just hit jackpot. Get yourself off that couch and hit the road to find The Pimp My Stride Crew.
What they do? They run, and they make you run. All you got to do (in the words of the crew) is – “On Sunday mornings, just get up, dress up and show up, and we’ll take it from there.” Just as simple as that.
ALL ABOUT THAT LAST MILE
The rustling of leaves. The crunch of gravel. The billowing wind. The blazing sun. Panting. Sweating. Pulsing heartbeats. Aching knees and sore muscles. The roar of crowds and the quieting of the mind. For a moment, there is bliss, and only yourself, and then the world comes crashing back and you realize you still have many miles to go. To the uninitiated, running may seem like an exhaustive, painful and unrewarding sport. To the members of The Pimp My Stride running crew, it’s anything but.
Dr. Bhanuja Bhagwat, all of 25, started the crew with an aim to get people to love the sport of running. “We can’t always control the cards we’re dealt in life, but running reminds you that there’s still a lot you can do for yourself, every single day, one kilometer at a time. I started the crew with the idea that if even one person benefited from it, it would be a worthwhile thing to do,” she grins.
“Running is a part of our diet, we eat in our small runs, we gulp it in our speed runs, and we celebrate it in our long runs,” one of the crew member adds on.
From just four people to about 150+ runners now, the crew is growing stronger than ever, simply hoping to spread the runner’s high. Ranging from newbies to training triathletes and marathon runners, engineers to doctors - the runners of the crew have trained themselves towards Full Marathons, Half Marathons and other short distances with the help of each other and you will see them participating in every major event in the city. Whether to get fit or train for your next race or to have a sense of belongingness with likeminded people, it’s come to be a family that will literally ensure you clock that distance and shatter your personal best records.
RUN CREW, FUN CREW
If you thought they were just into the serious part, then nah, they are here to have some fun and make lots of noise. The crew runs are a stand out in the city especially in Cubbon Park where the Sunday drills take place and everyone gathers to have a gala time (of course with a bunch of wide-eyed onlookers and some furry-legged friends).
While every weekend has a different plan, a few of the stand out days have been - relay race with watermelons, biryani run (running through the five best biryani destinations in Bangalore for a sumptuous meal), the book exchange run (clock a certain number of kilometers and grab a book), location-based runs in shapes (ever thought of that?). Basically, the idea is to get fit while you get ‘lit.’

With a year successfully (p)aced, the crew hasn’t missed a single run yet. NOW WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
