Remember when going to the bar was all about reasonably priced liquor, finger snacks (or “touchings” as they are endearingly named), and great conversation? Watson’s in JP Nagar has gone through a makeover to become just the place for that. Called Standing Bar by Watsons, they aim to bring about the more simple pleasures of catching up over a drink, sans the frills. The ambience inside hasn’t gone through a massive change (and we love that), and the menu features classics and dressed down versions of crowd favourites. Ghee Roast (mushroom, and chicken) is a winner off the bat, the second best being their Bhindi Kurkure that we finished before we even realised what it was!
These obviously go great with beer but let us suggest you try their range of cocktails. OK Guru is vodka, red wine, grapes and litchi juice. Bhookampa is dark rum, orange liqueur, almond, fig, and coffee (personal favourite as its as heady as it sounds, but on the sweeter side). Why A Screwdriver? Have A Spanner replaces the orange with peach and cranberry (also a perfect summer drink). There’s something for every palate it would seem. Once your drinks are in and you feel like ordering a main (though just drinks and touchings will do the trick on most days), definitely go for the Chole Puri or Vindaloo. Or just order their ghee roast with some roti, and you’re set.
