Winter Is Here: Save This List Of 6 Places To Buy Winter Jackets In Bangalore

The information in this post might be outdated

We may be blessed through the year, but Bangalore winters don’t mess around. Come November, and the temperature drops many degrees, and you almost want to reach out for your grandfather’s or grand uncle’s monkey cap, woollen scarf, fluffy socks and slippers. But the essentials are jackets. Cardigans, sweaters, and coats are available at some of these stores too so feel free to check them out too while you’re looking to buy winter jackets at these stores in town.

Eastern Stores

Old Bangaloreans will tell you that they used to make a pilgrimage to Eastern Stores on Commercial for all travel-related shopping. These days the tiny store has expanded and has outposts in Varthur and Jayanagar. While they were THE PLACE to shop for puffer jackets, trench coats, and soft woollens and thermals for winter trips up north and Europe, they’ve expanded their range to include lighter jackets, vests, hoodies and sweatshirts too. While the quality of their in-house brands are great and last long, we can’t confirm that their claims of “branded” clothes are true, so keep that in mind before shelling out.

Pinball Thermal Store

South Bangaloreans, head to Pinball for jackets, sweaters and inners. They have great quality waterproof jackets (with Bangalore weather, it's best to cover all your bases) along with warm puffer jackets and options that are great for travelling to cold places. They even have a few winter accessories if needed. Most of what is available are great as investment pieces as the store doesn't offer too many discounts. That being said, their stocks haven't been as regular in the last couple of years, so do call and enquire before your visit. They have a sizable luggage collection too.

Brown Shop (Woollen Stores)

Everyone probably already knows Brown Shop on Commercial Street. They stock Indian and international brands and their star category is woollens. Cashmere, merino, and other local varieties (including blends) are available. Even accessories like beanies, mittens, scarves and stoles are available in the same materials. They even stock thick hoodies, jackets and coats of all lengths. Be sure to ask them for products with the wool certifications if you're particular.

Pro-Tip: If you're heading for a winter wedding and need dressy but warm outerwear for your outfits, they have plenty of options too.

Monte Carlo

There are plenty of branches of Monte Carlo - Jayanagar, HSR Layout, Dispensary Road, New BEL Road and Esteem Mall among others. If not here, many stores stock the winter and outerwear collections. For cardigans, sweaters, and thick jackets for men and women, Monte Carlo is definitely a great option. They have sheep wool as well as synthetic options, and both last pretty long (a few decades at least if stored properly). Monte Carlo offers great seasonal discounts too. You can even shop their collection online

Columbia

Columbia is a global brand that has plenty of outerwear options for people who enjoy being in the great outdoors. Apart from jackets, vesta, and coats for men and women they also offer winter friendly sportswear, base layers, and accessories. Their offerings are pretty heavy duty - think fleece jackets, waterproof coats, windcheaters, down stuffed jackets and other insulated options they're not exactly cheap but have always delivered in terms of quality so if you're looking for extra warm long term options that you can use outside Bangalore, for your hill station and foreign trips pick up a jacket or few from here.

Decathlon

For no-nonsense, highly practical winter wear, head to Decathlon. Whether you need jackets for your evening walks and runs in the cold, or just something practical to wear when you’re out and about, they have a variety. They keep you warm, are usually available in basic colours, and last for ages. Plus if you’re heading out camping or travelling to anywhere cold, the jackets from Decathlon do the trick just as well. It is also immensely helpful that the staff is knowledgeable about what works based on your needs.

Pro-Tip

You’ll spot many street piles/informal pop-ups of winter wear (usually beanies, sweaters, cardigans, vests, jackets and coats) made from various materials at major shopping destinations like Commercial Street, Church Street, Brigade Road, Jayanagar, and Shivajinagar come November. The vendors always mention that these are factory rejects at literal throwaway prices, and they’re usually quite trendy too. We can’t speak for the quality but you’ll find unique pieces here if you take the time to hunt, and some of them have lasted quite long.
