Belly Full of Kerala at Mahabelly

By Aseem Kulkarni

LBB announces Mahabelly: a new Keralite foodie destination has opened at DLF Place, Saket. Drawing its inspiration from the Onam Festival's King Mahabali, Mahabelly features distinct delicacies showcasing Kerala's rich culinary traditions.

The establishment was founded by Thomas Fenn and Zachariah Jacob, and was borne out of homesickness every time they craved a dish prepared in traditional Keralite style. Considering the vast options in terms of flavour, texture and preparation of the cuisine they know and love has, they felt it needed to be represented better, and so, Mahabelly was created.

The menu features dishes influenced by the Syrian Christian, traditional Nair, the Malabar region’s Moplah coastal cuisines, along with authentic dishes from the toddy shops of Kerala that us Delhites have come to love. And of course no shortage of my personal favourite… appams!

Their signature dishes on the menu will include Konju Pollichathu {prawns marinated in spices, wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed to finish}. For spice lovers, you should try the Shaapu Meen Curry {a seasoned fish curry, infused with Malabari spices, curry leaves, and tamarind flavours}. It's considered a delicacy, and paired with the Keralite staple Kappa, you won't be able to get enough. And if after you're done with your meal and can manage to squeeze in a morsel or too, their Sweet Coconut Dosa with banana jam and ice-cream makes for the perfect end to the meal.

So why not go south {metaphorically speaking} for dinner and try MahaBelly? Your one-stop shop for authentic flavour and a wide-range of Keralite dishes.
