Come rain and a part of us is happy to escape the gruelling heat that only seems to increase every year. With rains though, come a new set of problems, including clothes that don't dry fast enough, unexpected power cuts, and of course, the infamous water logged roads. Needless to say, our homes and wardrobes need a bit of a re-haul to prep for the rainy season.

And we all know how much we love our clothes and don't want them ruined! So as a rule of thumb, avoid fabrics like cotton, linen or denims for a few months. As much as we'd like to avoid polyblends, they work best during the monsoon owing to the sheer practicality of it. Here are five types of outfits we put together for you with various rainy season clothes you should invest in this monsoon.

Workout Wear

Most of our fab summer workout routines take a hit in the monsoon, especially if you're someone who likes working out outdoors. The cool breeze, sight of the first rain and cooler temperatures instantly put us in the mood for chai and pakoras, and not necessarily that morning walk. But if you're committed to your fitness regimen, invest in waterproof workout gear that'll keep you warm and dry all at once, while you're out and about. Invest in waterproof shoes and add a rain jacket too, since most workout wear already come in moisture absorbing or wicking fabrics. Brighter colours or radium highlighted shoes ensure visibility especially during early morning foggy days so you stay safe as well!

Work Fit

Getting work wear right during the monsoons is especially tricky, because once you bear the morning rains and potholes to reach work, you're mostly in the confines of an air conditioned, dry space. The idea is to pick something that would dry fast, not highlight stains, and make you look presentable. Opt for patterns and warmer colours that can conceal the occasional sprinkle of rain. Give pure cottons and linens a break and opt for lighter, flowy fabrics in cotton blends or rayon. Figure-hugging ankle length moisture wicking leggings help avoid stains and spills easily as compared to salwars. To accessorise, you could drape a scarf so you can keep warm while adding some character to your fit. Swap out your pure leather tote with a water resistant bag to keep all your essentials dry and throw in an umbrella that comes with a travel sleeve to easily fit into your work tote.

Party Outfit

While our social life does take a hit initially since most of us are busy heading back home from work or feeling the need to be indoors, when you can't miss the occasional party, it's best to dress in style while also being practical. Swap out your heels with fabric uppers, with comfier shoes in water resistant materials. Opt for a flowy silhouette like a georgette saree, or a comfy silk kurta set to take you through the night. Some junk jewellery or oxidised silver jewellery is notorious for bleeding colour or giving you an itch when it comes into contact with water, so try to avoid these materials. If you're attending a big function or a wedding that requires you to wear something heavy, there's always a trusty trench to keep you dry (which you can take off later on).

Errand Day Comfy Fit

Heading out to get some mundane shopping done or run errands? You'll need something fuss-free that doesn't get in the way of your tasks while also keeping you dry. Dresses are always a fun option since they come in so many cuts and can compliment a wide range of body types. Choose midi length dresses or skirts over maxi dresses to avoid spills and stains. If you're feeling cold, you can always add a light tee or pullover to work as a top, and finish the look with comfy shoes. Add in some strappy flats, and you're good to have a day of completing tasks comfortably.
