Banashankari, or BSK, is one of the oldest areas of Bangalore. Recently expanded to a full six stages, it is also the largest locality in Bangalore, surpassing Jayanagar and Koramangala. Being so large and containing many colleges and offices, the area has a multitude of eating options. So naturally, we’re stepping in to help you out. Here’s the LBB pick of places to feast on in this neighbourhood.

Roving Feast

With two branches now open, this small, college-style eatery entertains customers of all ages. Hidden in plain sight opposite the BDA complex, there are only a few tables, so get there first! The tacos, salads and wraps here are all delicious and affordable.

Sri Laxmi Venkateshwara Coffee Bar

The SLV at Banashankari is a bit of an institution. Their idly-vadas are as iconic as the accompanying coconut chutney. Plus, the steaming hot tumblers of filter coffee.

Banashankari BDA Complex

The BDA Complex in Banashankari is a hub of food activity. From the ever popular Ravi Gobi (Gobi Manchurian anyone?) stall to the north Indian chaat, samosa and jalebi ones, this is where you should head for your fix of street food.

Pure & Natural

A salad and juice bar, Pure & Natural delivers top-notch soups and tossed salads. With a patient staff and minimal music, the menu is varied, ranging from pasta salads to Punjabi Lassi. It’s a good spot to hit up after a jog in the park for some wheatgrass juice and a sandwich.

Shivaji Military Hotel

Timing is the key to getting a seat and a donne of palav here. Besides the meaty palav that is made in batches to cater to hungry hordes, a few limited meat dishes a day make their appearance. Service is brusque and plates are laid with rasam and pachadi served in quick succession.

Smacznego

Delectable TexMex cuisine, even for vegetarians. The nachos here are a guaranteed success. Read more about Smacznego here.

Vinny’s

This gourmet wood-fired pizza joint will have you drooling for more. Their authentic thin crust pizzas are a treat, as is their great pasta selection. We love that you can customise your pizzas to your heart’s content here; you can put on anything (broccoli, mushroom, pineapple, jalapeños and more) you want! Pair that with some garlic bread for starters and finish off with their sublime caramel custard.

Pizza Stop

Reasonable prices, quick service and amazing taste! Make sure you try their Bombay and Manali Italian pizzas. Our absolute favourite though: the Mediterranean Pizza with artichokes.

Casablanka

With only a few tables and minimal ambience, this place is all about the food. The must-try items on their menu include Deep fried Oreos, Cold Coffee, Stuffed Chicken Pita and Penne Pesto. They also boast an all-day breakfast menu complete with bacon, French toast, pancakes and frittatas!

1947

This fine dining restaurant serves up some decent vegetarian food, with dishes inspired from our freedom struggle and designed around post-war independence. The Paneer Tikka and Subz Tava Biryani are the things to go for here.

Jcubez

More of a bar than a restaurant, the light finger food they serve here along with drinks is pretty good. There is a dedicated DJ, and the lights are dim. The bar often gets very crowded, but the chicken wings and beer are good value for money, and the place ends up packed every weekend!

Jalsa

A taste of Punjab, Jalsa is a three-storey mansion of a building, with different floors corresponding to styles. The roof-top seating has the best of both worlds with availability of both food and drink, and a great atmosphere. The Paneer Lajawab, Murg Patiyala and Tava Biryani here are all must-haves.

Sea Spice by 7 Star

High quality seafood and some authentic west coast cuisine is what you can look forward to here. Sea Spice also has an attached bar, making it a great place to head to for your alcohol/seafood fixes. Spend hours downing rum and tucking into Ghee Roast Squid, Prawns and Rava Fry Pomfret! Advance booking is recommended.

San Churro Café

A place to go when you feel like tucking into Mexican or Spanish cuisine. Chocolate Churros and Tabouleh are inserted into an eclectic menu that also features Babycorn Mushroom Shanghai and thin crust pizzas! If you haven’t been here already, make sure you grab a meal just once for the dessert. The Bizcocho Spanish cake is divine.

Stoned Monkey

A small café with limited seating, it’s a good place to head out to for a lazy Sunday sundae. Ice creams rule the roost here. And everything from desi chikkis to kokum and hot fudge to peanut butter gets added to scoops of ice cream here.  Shakes, coolers and hot chocolate are also on the menu. Charming ambience and bright lighting set a romantic tne for anyone looking to get lucky on a first date!
