Doors add to the overall aesthetic of your home, and often are instrumental in creating a first impression about your sensibility even before someone enters your room. Aside from being functional, doors come in various types and designs. Whether you're looking for a classic design or are willing to experiment with a newer model, here are 11 different types of doors to check out if you're sprucing up your home.

UPVC Doors

UPVC doors are some of the most sustainable types of doors for a home. Made with fully recyclable materials, they also keep the indoor temperature regulated. They're great if you have a sit-out or backyard garden space that you'd like to have a view of from the inside. They're also fully secure, allowing for modern locks to be fitted in easily.

Wooden Doors

Possibly one of the most common types of doors we've all seen, wooden doors are great for insulation, and can be customised to look minimal or have intricate carvings on them. They're especially great for entrances, since they provide ample security. We'd not recommend them for places with a lot of moisture, say, washrooms, since they tend to expand and contract often. If your budget allows for it, pick teak or rosewood for your main entrance wooden door.

Metal Doors

Metal doors can handle a great deal of wear and tear caused by weather conditions. If you live in a particularly windy area, or in a locality that experiences extreme weather often, opt for a metal door that performs well in these scenarios. While they're prone to rusting, a layer of paint ensures their longevity. They're also affordable as compared to expensive wooden doors.

Glass Doors

A common occurrence in office spaces, glass doors are great if you like an open scheme floor plan, which is also awesome for shared spaces. Like UPVC doors, glass doors also keep the temperature indoors regulated. They're best used indoors, say in closet spaces. You can also use frosted glass doors to create some privacy.

Mesh Doors

Mesh doors allow for light and fresh air to come in while creating a barrier for bugs, pests, and mosquitoes. Often found as a secondary door to a main door made of wood or other material, mesh doors are great for hot weather, and are easy to install. They need dry brush cleaning bi-annually, since dust often settles in the mesh.

Aluminium Doors

Mainly used in the outdoors, aluminium doors are hardy and are also used interchangeably with main gates. They're light and easy to install, making them a preferred choice with builders.

Grill Doors

Often found in apartment complexes and other compact spaces, grill doors add an extra layer of security to your home. They're often made from materials like iron which ensure your home is protected. Like mesh doors, they're mostly an extra door that's fitted along with the main entrance door, sometimes grilled doors come with mesh or glass too.

Sliding Doors

Sliding doors find their use in practically every space of the home interior, from balconies, wardrobes to kitchen entrances. Their primary function is to save space, since they open sideways instead of outwards. They're perfect if you'd like to save space in a compact home.

Panel Doors

Panel doors are typically made of wood, and are made by putting together different wooden panels together to create a distinct style. They're great for main entrances and bedroom doors too.

French Doors

We love how airy and spacious French Doors look. You can recognise one by the number of glass panels fitted into a wooden frame, giving them an open look. You can install them in shared spaces like kitchens and dining areas so they feel larger than usual. They're also excellent in spaces that let in a lot of natural light, like a garden or balcony.

Fibreglass Doors

Fibreglass doors are some of the most low maintenance types of doors for home interiors. They're extremely durable and provide  high insulation while being resistant to dents and other wear and tear. They're great for both interiors and exteriors, since they come with painted or with wooden panels. You could also customise them to match your design aesthetic.
