A shop in Andheri (E) has made our 2019 awesome. How? Because not only is it managed by differently-abled people, but it also serves lip-smacking cakes, cookies, chocolates and snacks like bhel puri and fresh fruit juice.
Called Together, it is a not for profit organisation based out of Andheri East and is an initiative started by Sangeetha Chakrapani. The bakery is part of Together’s Life Skills and Vocational training centre for young people with autism and intellectual disabilities, run by Chakrapani along with a team of seven professionals and parents.
The bakery is FSSAI certified, supervised by a Chef and run by a group of 15 youngsters with autism and other intellectual disabilities. The Shop at the Centre is registered under the Shop and Establishments Act and it trains/employs 6 people with disabilities.
The shop sells fresh eggless bakery products, has a choice of vegan products too apart from healthy snacks and a wide range of elegant paper bags. The shop enables the youngsters with autism to come forward and build bridges with the outer world, develop social skills and introduce them to the sense of community.
All we can say is, you’re missing out if you haven’t been here yet. The vibe of the bakery is amiable and the stuff they bake is awesome too.
