What Makes It Awesome

Chennai’s ever famous Moore Market that was burnt in a fire has made its comeback at the Grand Square Mall, Velachery. From old books, camel bone walking sticks, armchairs to vintage records and old telephones, the new Moore Market is a paradise for the bibliophiles and antique collectors of the city.

The store welcomes you with a huge doorway that is etched with books evoking an instant appeal to the people who pass by. It was started by Zarook Shah, who is driven to bring the concept of Moore Market back and the nostalgia associated with it. As you enter the store, there is a cafe that serves delish coffee from Coorg and it is the perfect spot for one to read and spend the evening. Their book collection consists of graphic novels, Zakka books and there is a pretty decent range of stationery supplies for sale as well!

Moore Market aims at being a kid-friendly environment and promotes the works of budding artists and creators too. Not just that, it also hosts movie screenings as well as auctions of antique collections during the weekend. You can also meet Shah, a great conversationist, who would listen to your ideas and suggestions for making the whole mall experience much better than how awesome it already is. Their staff is very friendly to the customers as well.

What Could Be Better

It could have a wider collection of books and a bigger space to accommodate more people in the evenings.

Pro-Tip

Moore Market is expected to branch out to more locations in the city, as an attempt to carry forward the nostalgia and the love for reading.
