Golu, decorations, and soru, sure, that’s what we look forward to every Navaratri. But, have you heard Amma fluttering about, wondering what gifts to buy for all the guests? Earrings, bangles, and blouse pieces are so overdone, so here are 10 budget-friendly items (under INR 500) we found at Home Centre.
Textured glass vase. With a pretty red hue and dotted patterns along the body, this one can sit perfectly well on your dressing table or by the window sill. Price is INR 449. We even found a hanging lantern model that comes with golden, metal detailing and red glass for a crimson reflection. Vintage looking almost, this can be purchased for INR 349. Candle holders are quite pretty too, and we found mosaic ones in curvy shapes at Home Centre. Available in hues of yellow, purple and teal green along with some interesting Indian motifs, you can buy a set of two for INR 399.
Metal artefacts look elegant too, and we found three pieces we really loved at Home Centre, all priced at INR 499. The first is a golden metal, round table clock that will make for the perfect side table accessory. Next, is a lady figurine, sitting with a pitcher in hand, exuding a contemporary appeal. We even liked tea light holders with a metal stand and colourful glass cups, placed together abstractly. You can even light someone's living room with metallic, light-based torans that come with pearl and heart detailing. A set of two will cost you INR 449.
Nothing says Happy Navaratri like chinaware, and if it has intricate designs, bonus points! Your guests will love you for this set of three, printed kulhads with vibrant artwork (colourful floral motifs, geometric patterns), perfect for adding a bit of pop to tea time. Price for these is INR 299. For all the children who come over for golu (and singing keerthanais), you can make their day with Home Centre's pizza-slice shaped plates. Priced at INR 499 for a set of four, these come with zany 'Happiness Is' quotes in bright colours. We even found rectangular, table placemats with fish prints in bright colours that can make for a thoughtful gift. Priced for 6 mats is INR 499.
