Mallika Angela serves up a bit of history on a plate through her quaint little takeaway service called Anglo Aunty’s Takeaway. From vindaloo to chicken curry, you will find all kinds of Anglo Indian specials on her menu. And you can even order online.

Aunty Knows Best

Having had an Anglo-Indian nanny who introduced her to the world of pork roasts and beef cutlets, owner of Anglo Aunty’s Takeaway,  Mallika Angela says the name was inspired by her “nan”. Although the name involves an aunty, the 80-year-old chef, fondly called Uncle John is the one who whips up authentic Anglo cuisine for the company. From Nana’s Pork Vindaloo {marinated pork with chilli, garlic and vinegar} to Aunty Bab’s Chicken Curry {thick gravy of tender chicken and spices},and beef or chicken cutlets along with traditional roasts, this menu is meant for carnivores. There’s Pork Biryani and Anglo Chilli Chicken Wings {apparently very different from the Indo-Chinese version} with capsicum and onions in a semi-dry tomato-base. They also have homemade wines, bright red Devil’s chutney and pickles like brinjal pickle and beef pickle. And the best part? No minimum order – yay!

The vegetarian options here are pretty limited {so are the desserts} with only peas pulao and sandwiches but they’re soon opening a small menu with vegetable cutlets and a couple more items. Also, it’s strictly a takeaway, so don’t expect a restaurant when you get here.

Foodies in and around ECR, do not fear. Anglo Aunty’s Takeaway is coming near you soon. Right now they offer two takeaway points at Nungambakkam and Anna Nagar East, from where you can pick up your parcels.
