We’ve been planning a visit to this popular salon chain, which has recently opened in Wallace Garden, for quite some time now. What better time to try their hair and salon services and get a new look, eh?

Right Hair, Right Now

First of all, can we stop for a moment and appreciate how cute the salon is? Bright, happy colours all around with quirky wall art and a cosy mani-pedi corner too. It’s cheery and compact, but don’t be fooled by the size, they still have three beauty rooms for facials starting at INR 1,500. There’s also quick fix treatments for tired eyes, dull skin and more, starting at INR 500. You can also get cool gel nail extensions for INR 3,000 at the salon.

But what’s BBLUNT without its cool hair makeovers? And the best part? They occasionally have some cool offers going on, so check with them before you drop in! Bored of your black locks? Get your hair coloured, if you don’t mind splurging a bit. They even do bright greens, pinks and blues so go all out! Chennai weather and water making your hair extra frizzy? Get the Keratin Treatment done for INR 6,000. B Blunt is known for life-changing, funky haircuts and you can get one starting at INR 600 up to INR 1,650. Oh, and their blow dry services start at INR 600, if you don’t want to change your look too drastically.

Tress Tales

So how did my makeover go? Once I got there, I met Manikandan, Advance Stylist, and together we tried to figure what look would suit me best. He placed two sheets against my face — a silver one and a gold one. Based on this, he decided whether warm or cool tones would suit my skin type. I had always wanted to get a warm blonde balayage done and based on this test, he said that would work.

First he used a pre-lightener and carefully placed it in different sections of the hair. This has to be done properly, for a balayage especially, so that colour blends in nicely with the natural black of my hair. The hair takes a couple of hours to lighten, so find a way to pass the time. I ended up ordering from the Old Madras Baking Company right next door. Anyway, once the hair started getting light enough, we moved onto washing it off and then applying a colour {he used 12.3 colour on me, he said} that he mixes with a Smart Bond hair strengthener to prevent damage. He also applies Vitamino Colour power mix to help boost the colour. This is thankfully done in less than an hour.

After another wash, we head to the hairdressing tables and once he’s done blowdrying, I see it — a honey mocha and gold balayage. I loved it! He even got help from fellow stylist Shakthi to change my wavy hair into lovely curls.  This look would come up to about INR 8,000.

From rather boring hair {with remnants of last year’s colour}, the peeps at BBlunt transformed my hair to a lovely sun-kissed work of art. And the service here is excellent — with friendly and helpful staff. We loved our session here and might even drop by sooner than later, for bold blues and reds next time. Until then!

#LBBTip

If you’ve never coloured your hair before, here’s a tip — come in with a lot of  patience! The pre-lightening session takes a couple of hours so drop by with a book or something that’ll help pass the time.
