Bengali or not, you just cannot resist the deliciousness.

The Bayleaf

The Bayleaf in Gopalapuram is one of the few plush restaurants that serve authentic Bengali food in the city. The ambience and décor will give you the zamindar feels with its aramkedaras (rocking chair) and gorgeous lampshades. Their Kathi rolls are an absolute must-try along with their Daab Chingri (Bengali prawn curry, cooked and served in tender coconut) and Aloo Posto (potatoes cooked with poppy seed). Don't forget to order a rosogolla and a misthi doi for a fitting end to the meal.

Aahaar Bengali Restaurant

Making way for a hearty Bengali meal with some pocket-friendly prices is Aahaar Bengali Restaurant. The restaurant comes with a homely ambience and friendly owners who treat customers like one of their own. Some of the vegetarian favourites happen to be the Aloo Bhaja (crispy, fried potatoes) and Shukto (a classic melange of vegetables cooked with poppy seeds and mustard). Non-Vegetarian favourites are the Bhetki Paturi (Bekti fish cooked in mustard in a banana leaf), Parshe Jhal (baby Mullet fish curry) and Chingri (prawn curry).

Petuk Express

In the mood for some quick street bites? Petuk Express in Perungudi serves some delectable mustard dipped dishes on your plate. Cutlets and chops are our favourites to order here. Perfectly crisp on the outside and meaty inside, they have these in vegetarian, chicken as well as fish options. You can also go for rolls. They have set meals with luchi and veg curry, paratha with chicken kasha and even chapati with egg tadka. Choose your fave meal to go!

Bengali Fun Foods

If you wish to have a proper Bengali home-styled meal, head to Bengali Fun Foods in Perungudi. Although their authentic bhaat and maach combo will remain our all-time favourite, you could check out different varieties to try out from the streets of Kolkata. The owners will help you choose one too. They even serve some Kolkata chicken biryani. Pair it up with some kosha mongsho or chicken bhartha. You will be in for a treat! The place is open for both delivery and takeaways.

Swadisht Khana

Serving up some Bengali-style tandoor and Indo-Chinese deliciousness is Swadisht Khana on Greams Road. Don't go by the simple looks of the place because they serve some finger-licking Tawa fried fish. Apart from sets with different types of fish curry combo and rice, they even have Kolkata-style rolls. Our fave pick is there chicken reshmi kati roll. They have gulab jamuns and carrot halwa to treat your sweet tooth as well. However, it's only open for takeaways.

Northern Connection

Missing home? Head to Northern Connection in Ramapuram. Open for delivery and takeaway, they will treat your taste buds with meals of luchi and aloo dum! Apart from home-style fish and chicken curry, they have koftas and baingan ka bharta that you must try. If you are confused as to which fish dish would be the best to try, no matter how much we want to say all of them, we would particularly suggest fish paturi. Apart from that, you can go for crabs and prawns as well. They even serve the Kolkata street favourite - the egg devil! For a perfect end to the meal, order up some rossogolas or raso malai.

Hotel Bangla

Never judge a book by its cover! Serving up steamy home meals is Hotel Bangla, a hidden place located in Park Town. The best idea is to order the meals here which come with unlimited rice and dal. You will even get helpings of aloo ki sabzi and mix veg sabzi. Along with that, if you want chicken meals, you can get chicken kosha or you could go for prawns and fish too. Katla, rohu, mourula or pabda are some of the fish dishes they have on offer. The only downside is that they just accept cash.
