Besant Nagar, apart from being a hub for many beachside restaurants and food stalls is also a small street shopping paradise, with everything from shoes, fabrics to jewellery and more! Here is what we found in the lanes of Bessy. Psst, it’s budget too.
Go Budget Shopping In Bessy For As Low As INR 20
Prints Galore
A bit of Pantheon Road exists on the Besant Nagar main road and it is budget-friendly and has some amazing prints. From beautiful Kalamkari to colorful Pochampally and more, SS Fashions has fabrics for all occasions. If you’re searching for materials for summer dresses and tunics, then this is the place to be. They even have a range of printed cotton dupattas and curtains for a steal price starting at INR 80 per metre! Check out their cat print and Mudra printed fabrics – we fell in love with them!
Footwear Fetish
On the very same road, we found one of the oldest footwear shops in the area, called Star Supreme. From flip flops for INR 150 to slip-on footwear and comfy wedges, the shop has quite a large variety despite its size. We picked up some brown sole and black knotted wedges apart from black ballerinas. They have ballerinas with bows and in boho-styles as well and they’ve even got formal shoes here. All ranging from INR 150 to 1,000. Just don’t forget to put your best bargain skills forward!
Chunky Jewellery
Many gypsy beads stalls that dot the roads (near the main road) offer colourful, differently-shaped beads strung together in bohemian neckpieces, funky earrings and customisable bracelets. Our favourite pick from these pavement stalls were the anklets. Extremely pretty, they cost just INR 20! They also sell huge choker style sets and necklaces. The best part is that most of these stalls even customise for you. You can pick gems, stones or beads of any colour and get your own personalised accessories done here.
Beauty & Beyond
If you’re wondering where to go for some good and branded cosmetics then one of Bessy’s stores is your one-stop shop. Right below Fast Fashions, is Trends hosting many products and few imported ones too. The shop is known to have Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works and couple of other beauty brands, usually not available in many stores in the city. They also have a wide range of funky nail polishes, hair straightening products and hundreds of bindi packets to choose from starting at INR 50. Their cosmetics obviously go up to INR 2,000.
Summer Finds
While Fast Fashions is an all time famous adda to pick up everything from t-shirts, to flowy dresses and shorts, Elliots Fashions is another budget-friendly outlet to indulge in while street shopping. Located in the farther end of Besant Nagar beach, bang opposite to Pupil, Elliots Fashions too has been here forever and the best part? You can bargain your heart out. We picked up some super comfortable beige shorts and many cotton shorts to laze around in at home too. We also found chic dresses perfect for summer. Apart from the many t-shirts, if you spend some time sniffing about this two storey shop, you might just end up finding some spaghetti tops and even pairs of jeans starting at INR 700!
