Sweet Yet Sinful: We Found The Best Chocolate Desserts In Chennai

Anna posted on 25 November

There’s never a good or bad time to indulge in a whole lot of chocolate because let’s be honest, chocolate is bae. And while most may not know this, there are tons of restaurants and cafes in the city that serve some of the most mouthwatering chocolate desserts you can get your hands on. And we’ve made a list of the ones that we really think you should try.

Theobroma Cake At Fresh Baked Goodness

Every Chennai dessert lover knows about Fresh Baked Goodness and every single one of us has bought some desserts from this baker or at least enjoyed her delicious treats. But what is still her most famous {and rightfully so} is her Theobroma cake. The triple layered dessert is just filled with delicious chocolate and if you haven’t gotten your hands on it yet, we’re a little worried.

And if you don’t want to take the whole cake home with you, you can get Theombroma Jars {INR 150}, which is the perfect size to stuff in your bag for snacking as you go.

Intoxicake At Zuka

All the way from Pondicherry, comes a chocolate café unlike any other. Don’t worry, they have non-chocolate items as well, but why would you want anything without chocolate? Their signature item is their Chocolate Serendipity {a double decked chocolate brownie for INR 279}, but we’re going to draw your attention to something just as delicious and aptly named the Intoxicake {INR 179}. It’s a 44 percent dark chocolate truffle with rum essence on cocoa sponge cake and covered with chocolate glazing that also has rum essence. Are you drooling yet?

That Really Tiny Chocolate Cake At Sandy’s Chocolate Laboratory

Here’s another really famous Chennai dessert – one that most people get excited about when you mention it to them. Because it’s anything but tiny. That Really Tiny Chocolate Cake {INR 220} is Sandy’s signature dessert and rightfully so. It’s basically chocolate upon chocolate upon chocolate and every bite will make you excited to dig in for more. And like we said, don’t worry about the size, you’ll get your fill.

Underbaked At Amadora Gourmet Ice Cream & Sorbet

While Amadora might be famous for their ice creams, they’ve also got a pretty amazing line up of other desserts that go well with their famous ice creams. Everything from the Twix Cake to the Mud Pie and the famous brownies are available at their outlets. But what they really should be famous for is their Underbaked {INR 220} dessert. It might sound strange, but it is absolutely delicious. Brace yourself for a chocolate chunk bar that has been underbaked so that it’s nice and gooey and pair it with a scoop of the Five Bean Vanilla ice cream and you’re set. It could also totally work as a meal too!

Mississippi Mud Pie At That Madras Place

We’ve all grown up eating mud pies and it’s one of those chocolatey desserts that never gets old. And at That Madras Place they have a delicious Mississippi Mud Pie {INR 225} that is absolutely delicious. The crust is made of crumbled Oreos and then topped with their famous Nutella ice cream and finally to round it all off a layer of gooey chocolate ganache. It’s part of their Happy Hours menu {4pm to 7pm}, but it should also be available otherwise as well.

Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake At The Brew Room

First opened at the Savera Hotel, The Brew Room is the perfect destination for coffee drinkers and lovers. They have a wide range of coffees to choose from, from all around the world, so if you’re a coffee addict {which everyone is, right?}, this is the place to be.

And obviously the best thing to have with your coffee is a delicious dessert, and why not select one {or two} from their fantastic menu? We’d recommend the Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake {INR 125} because it’s the perfect amount for one person and it’s gooey and moist and not too sweet that it pairs well with a nice hot cup of coffee.

Belgian Chocolate & Walnut Brownie At Amelie’s

Everybody loves Amelie’s! The new French-themed café in Alwarpet has gorgeous décor, helpful staff and a menu that is absolutely tempting.

Their ice creams are what most come for, but you should definitely take a look at their other desserts because you might find something you’ll enjoy. Like the Belgian Chocolate & Walnut Brownie {INR 148} with sea salt and caramel fudge. That’s right, it’s a combination worth dropping everything you’re doing right now and heading out for.

The Seventh Sin At Café de Paris

Started as a bakery last year, Café de Paris has now expanded into a full-fledged café with tables in the back. Their menu boasts some familiar dishes and drinks and the cosy glass-walled sitting space is exactly what you wanted on a lazy Sunday afternoon. But more importantly, what you need to get yourself is The Seventh Sin {INR 315}, it’s a seven-layered chocolate and mousse cake that is perfectly balanced. It works as a meal for one, or the perfect dessert to split between two {or more} people. Trust us, it’s worth the money spent.
