What Makes It Awesome

A park for everyone in the city, the Chetpet Ecopark is a haven for nature lovers. The lake within the park is the only lake that still exists within the city limits and is perfect for fishing. It was only in 2013 that the area surrounding the lake turned into the Ecopark when late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced to add a walking path, facilities for boating, angling, and even water sports.

Mostly used in the early mornings and evenings by walkers, Chetpet Ecopark houses its own sewage treatment plant within its premises and the lake uses rainwater from the storm drains. In fact, the Chetpet Lake is the first water body to use over 50,000 litres of recycled sewage water.

While the walking path lets you explore all the beauty this place encompasses, be sure to check out the duck pond here. The park is open through the day and also has a food plaza called the Ecopark Food Zone that has been built above the two-wheeler parking. From nasi lemak to kathi rolls, you can get everything here.

Interested visitors can go on a 30-minute boat ride around the lake, and there’s also the option to fish, along with a children’s play area. Aquarium, 5D show and VR shows are the other attractions here. If you’ve never stopped by Chetpet Ecopark, now is as good a time as any.

Pro-Tip

If visitors wish to take the fish they catch home with them, there is an extra cost. They have monthly passes for walkers too. The park is closed on Tuesdays.
