What Makes It Awesome

If you think both journey AND destination matters, you should be heading to Covelong, a fishing village, just an hour away from namma Chennai.
Wake up. Change to your breezy clothes. Wear those flip flops. Carry your camera. Drive down the East Coast Road. Easy isn’t it? On the way you can see folks completely immune to the buzz of the city 40 kms away, living life at their own pace. You can spot empty TNSTC buses (what a rare sight), newspapers stacked in bicycles to be dispatched, rusty shutters of closed shops and bright garlands woven in beautiful patterns.
Once you reach Covelong, get yourself a cutting chai and walk down the street to find silhouettes of fishermen and boats. The vastness of Bay of Bengal and morning sky never fails to amaze me. Wind in the hair and sand in the feet. If this is not a perfect weekend morning, what is ?
If you’re a ‘I’ll sit back and watch the waves’ person, you can relax as it’s not crowded. If your first thought is to jump in at the sight of water, folks this is the best place, if you pay the fishermen, they can take you for a little ride into the sea, where you can dive in(you will be guarded, don’t worry). You can unleash the photographer in you, it has perfect skyline, interesting people, cats that make eye contact and colourful streets. If you are a seafood person, support the locals and carry home those fishes for your afternoon meal.
Apart from this, a surf festival takes place once a year, which is super lit. Also, there are many surf schools operating, now go ride your waves like a pro.
Last but not the least, stay safe and don’t get in too deep.
So is your weekend sorted?
