First opened in Cochin in 1979, Eloor has branches in Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata and Trivandrum. While most government libraries cater to older books, newspapers and periodicals {much like the Connemara Public Library}, Eloor worked to cater to the other readers.
They have a large fiction section which includes new arrivals, classics, science fiction, romance and children’s books. They also have a great collection of non-fiction books, international and national magazines, cooking books, self-help, travel and pretty much everything that you could want in a library. You only have to spend INR 1,000 for your membership, which is then returned to you when you decide you don’t want to be a member anymore. Each time you borrow books, you pay a borrowing fee and that’s it.
