Football Fans, Check Out These 5 Pubs & Bars To Watch The 2018 FIFA World Cup

What a crazy tourney so far, right? With the Quarter-Finals of the 2018 Fifa World Cup about to kick off, we’ve picked five special pubs and bars around the city where you can catch all the World Cup action.

US 101

This long standing sports bar garners quite a crowd for the sports events it screens. Tennis fans flock here to watch big matches, same for cricket and football. Their sports lounge viewing area has room for quite a crowd and rightly so as it can get pretty crowded during big games. Ambience wise this pub caters to sports fans, with picture frames across the walls of famous athletes, along with other sporting memorabilia like jerseys. Definitely worth checking out. They’ve even got a countdown timer for when the World Cup starts!

Paddington

One of the other well-known sports bars in the city, Paddington has been around for donkey’s years. Upon walking in, it’ll become quite evident that if not for the dim lighting the ambience really doesn’t have much in the way of aesthetics. Paddington’s appeal lies in what it becomes when there’s a football match screening going on. Derby matches are rowdy events with supporters flocking to the venue. We imagine it’ll be the same when Messi or Ronaldo come on screen in the next few days.

The drinks are the cheapest on this list as well, with a large {650ml} bottle of domestic beer setting you back by only around INR 150. They’ve got a snooker table and the best part about hanging out here is you get complimentary snacks like chips!

Sera

This tapas bar cum restaurant on Cathedral Road has been a prominent part of Chennai night life for quite a few years now. Their events most often have a separate entry fee, to charge for the extra services they offer like a viewing area with a large projector, along with complimentary food and drink. Cricket and football match screenings draw some of their biggest crowds and for those nights they have a large screen projector to make screen the match. Do note that dress code is something they are strict about, so gents no shoes, no booze. If you want a classy place to watch a match this is the best there is on this list.

Watson's

This iconic Bangalore pub recently setup shop in Chennai and we were there to check it out. One of the things we were impressed by was how big it is, with ample space for match viewing, through projectors and screens. More fans cheering on the better we think, and that is why we like Watson’s. With their combination of food and drink, we think this will be the most fun place on the list to watch a match. For more on Watson’s check out our story on them here.

KoKoMmo - Tiki Bar At InterContinental

InterContinental Mahabalipuram’s Tiki Bar, KoKoMmo is the most exotic place in Chennai to watch the match as they plan to setup a live projection screen right on the beach! That’s right, you can sip on margaritas, put your feet up on a deck chair and spend a breezy evening watching a match on the sand. Their “glocal” starters and finger food make for great game time munching (more fried lotus stem please!). This first of a kind event will however only happen for big games as all matches can’t be screened on the beach and you never know when the weather can play spoilsport, so stay tuned to LBB for updates.
