Bibliophiles, rejoice! January promises to offer a feast of world class literature, renowned authors, and the coming together of new thoughts and ideas from across the globe. The Hindu Lit For Life, a three-day bonanza of discussions, workshops, performances and conversations by novelists, artists, performers and book lovers, is in its eighth year.
Moving beyond the simple dichotomy of fiction and non-fiction, the fest engages in topics relating to politics, art, history, cinema, journalism and much more. It celebrates free speech and expression, and works consciously at bringing literature – including, importantly, a wide range of regional language writing – to a wider audience. And while on the topic of inclusivity, the fest will also includes children’s books and workshops on storytelling and creative writing, encouraging kids to plunge into the delightful world of the written world.
What’s new this year? The fest plans to host its first Tamil Literary festival with the aim to spread awareness of and instil pride in the Tamil language and its rich, evocative literature with screenings, animated conversations and illuminating discussions. Confirmed speakers include Rajdeep Sardesai, Amitava Kumar, Karan Johar, Jeet Thayil and Tishani Doshi. And, like every year, place your bets on which of the authors vying for The Hindu Prize for Best Fiction could win!
