The 13th edition of the Hindu November Fest kicks off in Chennai next week and now is as good a time as any to find out what’s happening during this four-day musical extravaganza.

Kicking off with a bang on the November 9, The Hindu November Fest promises to be yet another musical escape from our regularly scheduled lives. For four days, The Music Academy will be hosting different genres of music, from different parts of the world in a way that will appeal to everyone. Featuring Jugalbandi, Carnatic, Electronic, R&B, Folk and Pop styles, the four-day festival in our fair city is going to be an absolute treat for every music lover.

The Line-Up

The first show is on Thursday, November 9 featuring a Jugalbandi performance of six classical musicians, weaving together the classical and semi-classical, devotional music blends with Sufi. With the likes of Kaushiki Chakraborty {on vocals}, Taufiq Qureshi {on percussion}, Rakesh Chaurasia {on flute}, Purbayan Chatterjee {on sitar}, Satyajit Talwalkar {on tabla} and Sudhanshu Gharpure {on keyboard & harmonium}, this is a night you do not want to miss.

On Friday, November 10, Sid Sriram brings his experimental production combining music, dance and visual elements to deliver something completely new to the audiences. Mixing popular film songs, original compositions and traditional Carnatic pieces, “Boundless” is an experience quite unlike any other and the young musician promises a night to remember. Performing with Sid Sriram are Pallavi Sriram {performing Bharatanatyam dance}, Sanjeev Thomas {on guitar}, Keba Jeremiah {on bass}, Leon James {on keyboard}, Tapass Naresh {on drums}, Praveen Sparsh {on percussion} and Marti Bharath {synthesiser/ sound effects}.

Day three that’s Saturday, November 11, sees the only international act on the line up: Lail Arad & JF Robitaille – a folk duo inspired by the coffee-house style 1960s New York. Lail Arad {from the UK} and JF Robitaille {from Canada} will not only perform their own music, but will also give new life to the songs written by their musical heroes – Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.

Sunday, November 12 {the final day in Chennai} will have a performance by The Music Men {featuring Benny Dayal & The Band with Anil Srinivasan}. They are going to be introducing a brand new musical genre titled “Cinema Cool” where the band will weave together the cinematic landscape with their own music, inspired by their lives and influences into a performance that will truly end the fest with a bang.
