As followers of Rupi Kaur and her work, we stumbled upon her recent post on Instagram where she says she’ll be on an India tour all through January, February and March! Not many details have been revealed yet but we’re really hoping to catch this Insta-Poet in action in our city.
You’re probably familiar with this Canadian poet’s work and if you’re not, check her out if you love poetry on feminism, love and healing. Her first book on poetry Milk and Honey was published in 2014 and even made its way to New York Times Bestseller List! Her more recent book The Sun and Her Flowers is out now and deals with growing and healing and honouring one’s roots {she is of Punjabi descent}.
On Instagram you can now find so many people posting short free verse poetry with quick, simple illustrations to go with it. This is Rupi’s signature style and it’s inspired many budding poets on social media to come out and speak and share their work and personal journeys. And what makes her such a sensation is that she uses simplicity to talk about complex feelings —which seems to be relatable to people across the globe. She covers everything from womanhood to dark themes like violence and abuse.
