Featuring the best of Kerala Handicrafts, Kairali Handicrafts is an iconic store in Anna Salai. Tucked along a slew of handicrafts store, the golden glimmer from the traditional Kerala nilavilakku, which is basically a lamp lured us into the store. Filling up almost one-third of the place, these can be found in an array of sizes and designs.
We also found beautiful wooden artefacts in the form of house boats, elephants that double us as coat hangers, Ganesha idols and other miniatures that you can use to deck up your space. These start from about INR 300. Kairali also has some great palm leaf items like table mats, runners, grass bags and more.
We totally loved the wooden boxes here that come with bronze detailing and can be used to store jewellery, trinkets, spices and more. Kairali also has brass showpieces, cedar wood artefacts, handmade musical instruments and bamboo paintings.
Given that all of this represents the culture and heritage of God's own country, you're bound to find coconut-based products here. We particularly loved the coconut shell monkeys priced at about INR 300 here. You can also find some coconut shell cups, if you're lucky, since they sell out really fast. This place definitely reminded us of Kerala and we suggest you head there if you are missing those breathtakingly beautiful lands!
