Mylapore's landmark is the impressive Dravidian style Kapaleeswarar Temple and its temple tank. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was built by the Pallavas of the 15th century and further developed by the Vijaynagar kings in the 16th century.
The temple is lined with shops selling slik, temple jewellery, religious paraphernalia, tiffin stalls, vegetable markets & concert halls.
Notice the terrace roofs of the few 19th-century houses that remain and their quaint vernacular architecture.
