Silent Reading, A Book Club & Bookstore: Why We Love This Cute Library
This cute library in Anna Nagar is more than just a library, it’s a book store and a book club too! They host book reviews, readings and storytelling sessions. But did you know about their latest book cover challenge?
What Makes It Awesome
Started by an ardent book lover, Swetha, Little Love Library is the passion project that she’s turned into her livelihood. Swetha, grew up reading books and wanted to share her love for books with everyone around her. That’s how the name Little Love was born, as sharing books is akin to sharing love. The library features books primarily in English as well as 500+ books in Tamil, and other local languages like Telugu and Hindi. There are translations available and when asked about the genres she stocks, she tells me there’s too many to count (examples include, sci-fi, mystery, thriller, romance, etc). Though she tells me she’s handpicked every single book, and that the entire library is a collection of the books she’s read or been given!
So if you’re searching for a certain book/recommendations, all you need to do is talk to Swetha about what you’re looking for and she’ll pick something out for you! Little Love also stocks regular publications too, like Archie comics, Tinkle and even the entire set of Reader’s Digest series!
Not only is Little Love Library a great place to check out thanks to Swetha’s large collection of books, but they also do various reading events. Their most regular event has been their silent reading sessions which happen at the Anna Nagar Tower Park every Saturday morning. Swetha brings along a large collection of books from specific themes (Ruskin Bond books, books about paranormal activity, etc) to the park, interested readers and patrons are invited to pick up any book to read. After the reading period is over, each reader is encouraged to talk about the book they read. They’re free to attend and are a great way to meet new book lovers and get to hear about new books!
In fact, they’ve had 44 such silent reading sessions so far and have regular readers joining each session. Little Love Library also hosts interactive storytelling sessions for kids where they bring storytellers to their space and have them tell stories to children. We think it’s awesome that the folks at Little Love Library do what they do, and are definitely worth checking out. Their bookstore is a good place to pick up books for cheap too as all the books on offer are sold at discounted rates!
They are currently participating in the 365 book cover challenge. But the additional props along with the book adds to the fun of the challenge. They also give a little review about the book that they are posting on their Instagram page. This is just taking creativity to another level!
