For Pom Pom Mojaris & Painted Diyas Head To This Crafts Market In Thiruvanmiyur

What Is It?

Looking for colourful handicrafts, lanterns, jhutis and more? Head to Sampoorn Santhe that’s happening at Kalakshetra Foundation until Sunday, October 15 and is a ‘Back To Nature’ themed Diwali crafts-market organised by Sampoorn, an NGO for crafts and craftspeople.

Sampoorn was formed to encourage local arts and crafts by providing artisans {especially from rural areas} a platform to showcase and promote their handicrafts. You can find bright, colourful masterpieces here – there’s festive wear, jewellery, Diwali accessories and gifts, décor and much more.

Who Is It For?

If you’re looking to do some festive shopping, get your hands on pretty diyas, Turkish lights, faux leather shaded lights etc. There’s also plenty for non-festive shoppers. Look out for hand-made bead jewellery, Odisha Madhubani Pattachitra art, patchwork linens and cushion covers, Patola sarees, Rajasthani namkeen and Afghan carpets just to name a few. There are 80 other stalls in this crafts-market and you’re probably going to be spoilt for choice.

Why Should I Go For It?

The products are oh-so pretty, and so affordable too! You’ll be in awe of how much delicate detailing and work has gone into each product. Diyas and other clay products are put on display by a Rajasthani terracotta artisan who has earthen Dahi ki Tokris, clay pots and painted diyas. Just opposite the earthen display is Mr. Sahil from Punjab who has colourful, vibrant pom-pom and ghoongru mojaris and chappals which are a must-have this festive season. A few artisans from Agra will display their glass and crystal art like miniature show pieces which would be great as Diwali gifts.

Looking for lovely prints? You’ll find linen and clothing like natural dyed shibori {similar to tie and dye} cloth from Chattisgarh, Rajkot Silk sarees from Patola and Chikan suits from Lucknow. There’s also plenty of home decor like garden furniture from Uttar Pradesh that’s made of Sheesham Wood {Indian Rosewood}, mirror work lamps from Rajasthan, Tumba Shilpi hangings that are made from gourds, pumpkins and bamboo.

There’s a whole lot more that Sampoorn Santhe has to offer so make sure you don’t miss out on this amazing festive crafts-market.
