In today's fast-paced digital world, where screens dominate our lives, there is an emerging need to reconnect with the joy of creating something tangible with our own hands. Skillo, started by Akshay and Mrudula, recognises this need and took it upon themselves to provide a unique and fulfilling experience through woodworking workshops. Skillo's inception stemmed from a personal experience Akshay had. His father owned flats that needed refurbishing, realising then his lack of basic skills in tasks like drilling or fixing a leaking flush struck a chord, highlighting the importance of being more 'hands-on' in life. With this newfound purpose, Skillo was born, with the idea to teach essential life skills such as woodworking, cooking, plumbing, and electrical. The couple and Akshaay’s brother Hemang organised their first 10-day camp for children last year and received great feedback from parents and children, which drove them to continue doing workshops. Recognising the therapeutic aspect of their workshops, the trio decided to expand their offerings beyond children's workshops and introduced recreational workshops for all ages, acknowledging the desire of many parents to engage in stress-busting activities alongside their children, as they learn to transform raw wood into functional home decor items. Skillo's woodworking workshops offered a perfect blend of education and recreation, catering to a diverse audience. Many individuals expressed an interest in working with wood but faced barriers like sourcing materials, understanding wood types, and acquiring technical expertise. Skillo stepped in as a medium and platform to guide participants in exploring woodworking, making it an accessible and enjoyable experience.

They are committed to sustainability by upcycling wood from packaging materials sourced from local harbours, they strive to reduce plastic use, continuously seeking eco-friendly alternatives for their workshop materials. This commitment reflects their responsibility towards ecological awareness and a greener future apart from imparting basic life skills. They ensure a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere during their workshops. With a focus on low batch strength so that participants can receive individual attention and guidance.

The fear of making mistakes or feeling intimidated by tools is diminished as Skillo fosters a non-judgmental environment and the result is a workshop that not only imparts skills but also strengthens bonds among participants, creating a positive social experience. Akshaay states, 'The best feedback we ever received from a participant is that during the entire workshop, he felt he was back in time and so immersed that he didn’t even glance at his phone even once’. Stay updated with Skillo on Instagram to know more about their upcoming workshops.
