Oh, how can life be so cruel. Known for one of the best cinema-going experiences in the country, and our pride and joy, SPI Cinemas, has been bought over by PVR. Or at least about 70% of it. Aiming to expand their reach across the south, the cinemas giants PVR will now have control over more screens in Chennai, and well as over other cities in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
While we're really unhappy about our iconic and favourite cinema chain being taken over, we're hoping that PVR will retain the multiple topping popcorn, the cheap ticket rates and the lovely recliner chairs that have become synonymous with SPI Cinema screens across the country, especially Sathyam. But SPI Cinemas, as we currently know it, will be gone. Excuse us while we bawl into a bucket, and then order some popcorn from Sathyam.
