With all the watering holes shut, residents can rejoice as TASMAC liquor stores in the city are now open from 10 am to 7 pm for all days except Sundays. The decision to open all shops from August 18, was announced on Sunday, August 16, as part of Unlock 3.0, much to the joy of tipplers who've waited for this for nearly four months, according to this Times Of India report.
As per the new regulations, tokens will be issued to customers with only 500 shoppers being allowed at the outlet per day. Wearing masks is also mandatory. More than 750 Tasmac outlets in and around Chennai that fall under the Greater Chennai Police limits are now open. Additionally, every outlet will distribute only 50 coupons in an hour.
Elite shops selling premium and imported liquor within all shopping complexes except malls and only those outside containment zones are also open for business, according to the report. However, bars attached to Tasmac outlets will remain shut.
As many as 5,890 persons tested positive on Monday, August 17, taking the total state count of Tamil Nadu to 3,43,945.
