Summer Break? College-Goers, Here Are Some Fun Things To Do In The City

Gautham posted on 09 May

Looking to pick up a hobby? Try a new skill? Or catch up with the gang for a CSK match? Here’s LBB’s guide for a list of things college goers can indulge in, now that holidays are on!

IPL Screenings & Alcohol Deals

Feel like heading to a fancy venue to cheer namma CSK on? BOATS in Besant Nagar is giving you unlimited beer for the duration of a game for INR 1,499 or you can pay cheaper if you’re planning to stay only for one innings! That’s not too bad considering a match lasts more than three hours so get guzzling.
Ink 303 on Khader Nawaz Khan Road is doing some great 1+1 offers on alcohol all week long for IPL screenings! Both Chill and Grill in Mylapore and Pitch at the Metroplace Hotels are offering a 20 percent off on your whole bill at the end of the night during IPL screenings! What do you have to do? Just reserve a table beforehand and leave the rest to them! For more offers go here.

Pick Up A New Hobby

Maybe with your free time, it’s time to find a new hobby! Summers do mean that it’s hot but that could be the perfect excuse to have a lesson in surfing at Surf Turf or sailing at the Tamil Nadu Sailing Association! If not getting into the water, why not still head to the beach and get in touch with Chennai Ultimate Frisbee to try out Frisbee at the Elliots Beach? They have an exclusive women’s coaching class this month by the way, check it out here.
If you don’t feel like you’re up for this much physical activity, why not look at joining the book club at Writer’s Café or one of the music meet-ups in Chennai? Yes, you can actually do that. There are meet-ups arranged exclusively for people who enjoy artists like DeadMau5 or even local music composers who would like to jam and create some music! You can find these events here.

Slay Those Skills At Auditions & Workshops

Conducted by Music Director RN Vasanth, aspiring singers can be part of a workshop, but this one is slightly different! Conducted in a real-time studio, this won’t be a mere selection committee but it would be an overview of the singing techniques of the singer with focus on vocal strength, modulation, range, pitch and rhythm. Sounds exciting right? Find the event link here and head over to the event on May 13.
If you’d like to audition and instead of taking up voice training lessons, drop by the Voice Culture Studio from May 5 to May 27. You can book your passes online here and get a chance to be part of something much bigger – concerts and all!

Film Buffs

The Balu Mahendra Film Society (BMFS), founded after the legendary director, was started to gain knowledge about films and study filmmaking from other legends. The Madras Film Screening Club and Cinema Rendezvous, both based in Chennai, are two other similar initiatives. After the film’s screening, there will be an interactive session and discussion. What’s better? The MFSC even conducts movie marathon nights every month! You can get in touch with any of the three clubs on Facebook about memberships. My favourite? Cinema Rendezvous for sure. They sell annual memberships, for single screenings and even provide concessions for students! Maybe you should head to Savera next on May 12 to watch their next screening, Wes Anderson’s Rushmore!
