Love Besant Nagar at best of times? Well, here’s another reason to love it even more! There’s a community fridge that’s been placed near the Tennis Club, and it’s been set up to help provide for those who can’t afford a meal. Ayyamittu Unn (which roughly translates to ‘think and eat’) is an initiative by The Public Foundation, and they’re counting on you to keep the fridge stocked and replenished.
If you’ve ordered too much food at a restaurant, or just want to share some love, drop by the community fridge. How it works is one can leave (surplus) food in the fridge which is secured by a watchman and there’s a register that keeps track of the donations. And what’s more, it’s not just about food. There’s a counter where you can also donate toys, books, clothes, shoes and similar articles. Over a hundred people have already begun contributing. Nothing like paying it forward; so what are you waiting for?
